Hood Leads Bobcats to a 50-47 Victory Over Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Da'Nasia Hood recorded her second double-double of the season, and the Texas State women's basketball team (9-14, 2-10 Sun Belt) won a historic game with a 50-47 victory at Little Rock (10-13, 8-4 Sun Belt) Thursday afternoon in the Jack Stephens Center.

The Bobcats had never won in seven previous tries on the Trojans' home court before Hood scored a game-high 17 points and equaled her career-best effort with 14 rebounds for the Bobcats. Kennedy Taylor added 11 points, and Jayla Johnson added eight critical points.

Playing in front of a crowd of 2,557 that primarily consisted of students from 37 schools across the Central Arkansas region, both teams struggled to shoot early in the game as neither team made a three-point field goal in the first half.

Johnson scored six of her points in the opening half and helped the Bobcats remain in contention as Little Rock held a 21-19 advantage at halftime.

The Trojans raced out to a 29-23 lead midway in the third quarter before Taylor nailed the first three-point field goal in the game with 5:29 left to play in the third quarter to pull Texas State back to within 29-26.

Hood scored Texas State's next five points with a three-point field goal and a jumper from the free-throw line to tie the game at 31-31.

Johnson added a layup to help the Bobcats tie the score at 33-all at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth period, Johnson hit Taylor for a layup to give the Bobcats their first lead in the second half, 35-33.

Then, Hood hit a pair of three-point field goals to help Texas State build a 45-41 lead with 2:48 left to play.

After Little Rock rallied to tie the score at 45-45, Hood nailed a jumper outside the paint to give the Bobcats a 47-45 lead. Little Rock turned the ball over on its next possession. Avionne Alexander hit the second of her two free throws, and Taylor drove in for a layup off a steal by Bailey Holle to give the Bobcats a 50-45 lead with six seconds left to play.

Holle fouled Tori Lasker with five seconds left, and she made both of her free throws to make the final score 50-47.

Texas State plays the second of three road games on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Arkansas State for a game that starts at 4 p.m.  Texas State closes out the road trip on Feb. 22 at UT Arlington.
