Monstrous Fourth Quarter Propels Bobcats Past Lady Mavs, 72-55

SAN MARCOS – Texas State (8-12, 1-8 SBC) scored a season-best 31 points in the fourth quarter and battled back from a second half deficit to defeat UTA (12-9, 6-3 SBC), 72-55, on Saturday afternoon inside Strahan Arena. Bobcat sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood dropped a career-high 28 points and was a perfect seven-for-seven from three-point distance.

TXST trailed UTA 44-41 entering the fourth quarter and played its best basketball of the year in the final 10 minutes. A large 19-1 run by the hosts to begin the fourth quarter opened the floodgates and allowed Texas State to coast to its first Sun Belt victory of the campaign. The Bobcats shot a scorching 71.4% (10-for-14) from the field while holding UTA to a 16.7% (3-for-18) mark in the final stanza.

Sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor, who ranks inside the top-20 in the NCAA in assists per game, registered a career-best 12 dimes. Senior guard Brooke Holle notched the sixth double-double of her career and posted 19 points with a team-best 11 boards. She also converted all nine of her free throw attempts.

Hood turned in the best performance of her career and poured in 20-plus points for the third time this year. Her seven rebounds were the second most on the team. Hood became the first Bobcat to be perfect from long distance on at least four tries since McKinley Bostad in 2016. Junior forward Jayla Johnson scored 10 points on an efficient five-for-seven performance.

The game swung in the Bobcats favor at the 7:32 mark of the fourth quarter when UTA's Marie Benson was called for an intentional foul and disqualified with her fifth personal foul. Benson led the Lady Mavs with 19 points and 11 rebounds but was a spectator for the game's final minutes.

The 17-point loss for UTA was its largest in conference play since 2018 when Texas State defeated the Lady Mavs, 75-58. TXST capitalized on 12-of-17 attempts at the charity stripe compared to UTA's 6-for-8.

Texas State earned its first win over a top-100 RPI team this season.
