Texas State takes on Our Lady of the Lake

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Texas State opens a two-game home stint with a 4 p.m. tip-off vs. Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Strahan Arena.
 
The Bobcats (3-2) look to get back in the winning column after a 74-53 setback at No. 13/12 Texas earlier this week in the state capitol. Texas State averages 69.8 points per game (ppg.) this season but ranks third in the Sun Belt with a 65.6 scoring defense and a 40.1 field goal percentage defense. TXST is fifth in the conference with 4.2 blocks per game and fourth with a +3.4 turnover margin.  
 
Junior guard Mason Harrell leads the team with 14.4 ppg., shooting 46.6 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from behind-the-arc, and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe (No. 7 in the Sun Belt). Senior guard Shelby Adams follows with 9.4 points on average and is the team leader with 1.8 steals per game (spg). Senior forward Isiah Small leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game (rpg.) and ranks No. 4 in the Sun Belt with 1.8 blocks per game (bpg.) in addition to his adds 6.6 ppg. Graduate guard Marlin Davis leads the team with 3.4 assists per game (apg.) and leads the conference with an 8.5 assist-to-turnover ratio to go along with his 5.8 ppg.
 
SCOUTING OUR LADY OF THE LAKE
The Saints (1-0) will use the game against the Bobcats as an exhibition. The only played was against Incarnate Word on Nov. 29, where they fell 84-71. In the loss, senior guard David Johnson led OLLU with 18 points (8-of-19), and junior forward Ruben Monzon followed with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds. Senior forward Jordan Embry also provided 10 points off the bench.
 
Johnson is a transfer from William Woods University (NAIA), where he was named NAIA All-American. He led William Wood's program with 15.8 ppg and had a team-high 43 blocks before sitting out last season due to injury. Monzon is the team's top returner from a season ago. He is an all-conference selection after transferring from UTSA last season. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
Our Lady of the Lake leads the all-time series 1-0 after defeating Texas State in overtime 127-126 on Nov. 24, 2010. The 126 points for the Bobcats is a program record.
 
CHALK TALK
The Texas State men's basketball staff will be hosting Chalk Talk. Chalk Talk will be a presentation by one of the coaching staff members, followed by a meet and greet. Light refreshments will be provided. Chalk Talk will be before each non-conference home game, the UT Arlington game on Feb. 13, 2021, and all Friday home games.
