SAN MARCOS, Texas — A day after going four sets against Little Rock, the Texas State volleyball team completed the three-match sweep of the Trojans with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 victory Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Bobcats (14-1, 7-0) move to 26-0 against Sun Belt Conference West Divisional opponents inside Strahan Arena in San Marcos since the conference went to divisions in 2016.
In the first set, Texas State took a 1-0 lead after an attack error from Little Rock, before the Trojans came back to take a 5-4 advantage on the scoreboard. From there, the Bobcats responded with a 3-0 run to take a 7-5 lead, before UALR re-tied the game at 7-7. TXST responded with a quick 6-0 run to re-take the lead at 13-7. It was a lead that was extended to 10 at 19-9, before
Kenedi Rutherford closed out the set with a kill.
After Little Rock hurried out to an 8-4 lead in the second set, Texas State went on a 5-0 run to re-take the lead at 9-8. Following the Trojans taking an 11-10 lead on the scoreboard, the Bobcats, again, went on a scoring run to take a 14-13 lead. The two teams traded points for the majority of the remainder of the second set until TXST went on a 4-0 scoring run and then eventually
Janell Fitzgerald pushed the Bobcats to a 2-0 match lead following a kill to seal the second set.
Little Rock ran out to a 5-3 lead in the third set until Texas State responded with a 4-0 run to take a lead that the Bobcats did not surrender the rest of the day. TXST took a 10-8 lead that was extended to a 14-8 advantage and was ballooned to 17-11 later in the set. After the Trojans got to within six at 21-15, before the Bobcats outscore UALR 3-1 to get to match point that Rutherford concluded with another kill.
Texas State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 30 when the Bobcats travel to Arlington, Texas to face UT Arlington in a two-day, two-match Sun Belt series.
