Mobile, Ala. — Despite a career-best performance from quarterback
Brady McBride, South Alabama (2-2, 1-0 in Sun Belt) scored the final 10 points in the game as Texas State suffered a 30-20 loss Saturday afternoon in Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Texas State had tied the score at 20-20 with 10:30 left to play when
Seth Keller kicked a 41-yard field goal.

But the Jaguars scored the final 10 points in the game when Desmond Trotter hit Kawaan Baker for an eight-yard touchdown pass and Diego Guajardo kicked the extra point to give the Jaguars a 27-20 advantage with 7:10 left to play. The Jaguars clinched the victory when Guajardo kicked a 44-yard field goal with 1:09 left to play.

McBride had career highs in completions and yards when he competed 28-of-40 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown.
Jackson Lanam added a career-best five receptions for 48 yards and caught the first touchdown reception of his career.

Brock Sturges also added a one-yard touchdown run and
Seth Keller scored eight points with two field goals and two extra points.

Carlos Davis led South Alabama's ground attack as the Jaguars outgained the Bobcats 132-88 in rushing yards. Davis ran for 113 yards and a touchdown on 32 attempts, and Desmond Trotter completed 18-of-22-passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. Chance Lovertich also completed 7-12 passes for 66 yards and another TD.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Texas State (1-5, 1-2 in Sun Belt) turned the ball over on downs at South Alabama's 35-yard line on the game's first drive, the Jaguars drove down the field for a 33-yard field goal by Diego Guajardo to take a 3-0 lead.

Texas State answered with a 9-play, 65-yard drive for a touchdown.
Brady McBride completed five of his six passes for 51 yards, including a nine-yard TD to
Jackson Lanam. It was the first touchdown catch of Lanam's career.

South Alabama scored their first touchdown with 13:19 left to play in the first half when Carlos Davis scored on a one-yard run. Guajardo kicked the extra-point to give the Jaguars a 10-7 lead.

Seth Keller kicked a 30-yard field goal.

The Jaguars took a 17-10 advantage into halftime when Chance Lovertich hit Jalen Tolbert for a one-yard touchdown pass, and Guajardo kicked the extra point with six seconds left in the first half.

Texas State made the score 17-17 midway into the third quarter when the Bobcats took possession at midfield. McBride completed two straight passes to
Jah'Marae Sheread for 47 yards to South Alabama's three-yard line.
Brock Sturges scored his fourth touchdown of the season with a one-yard touchdown run, and Keller added the extra point.

The fourth quarter began with both teams exchanging field goals in the first five minutes. Guajardo kicked a 24-yard field goal at the 14:01 mark. Then, Keller evened the score at 20-20 before South Alabama scored the game's final 10 points.Â
