Bobcats Fall 52-14 at No. 12-ranked BYU

PROVO, Utah —Texas State jumped out to an early lead but could not contain 12th-ranked BYU (6-0) as the Cougars defeated the Bobcats 52-14 Saturday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
 
Texas State jumped out to a 7-0 lead when they took the opening kickoff and drove down the field 75 yards. The Bobcats (1-6, 1-2 in the Sun Belt) scored their first touchdown in the game when Brady McBride threw a 19-yard pass to Marcell Barbee, and Seth Keller added the extra point.
 
BYU came right back to score six touchdowns on offense and a defensive TD to take a 49-7 lead.
 
Texas State scored another TD in the fourth quarter when McBride threw a 20-yard TD pass to Barbee, and Keller kicked the extra point. The Cougars closed out the scoring with a 28-yard field goal to make the final score 52-14.

McBride completed 17-of-30 passes for 150 yards and the two TDs to Barbee. He also had two interceptions.
 
Brock Sturges led the Bobcats with 58 yards rushing on eight carries. He had a 34-yard run on Texas State's fourth-quarter touchdown drive.
 
Calvin Hill led the Bobcats with five receptions for 38 yards. Barbee had three catches for a team-high 48 receiving yards and two touchdowns. It marks the third time this season that he has scored two TDs in a game.
 
Seamus O'Kelly had four punts over 40 yards and averaged 39.5 yards on six punts. He placed four boots inside the 20-yard line.
 
Sione Tupou led the Bobcats with a game-high 12 tackles and assisted on a tackle for loss. Zion Childress and Brendon Luper each had nine stops.
 
BYU quarterback Zack Wilson completed 19 of 25 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Allgeier rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Lopini Kotoa ran for 35 yards and a TD on eight carries. Isaiah Kaufusi scored the defensive touchdown when he returned an interception 32 yards.

Texas State returns to Bobcat Stadium for its annual Homecoming game when the Bobcats host Louisiana in a Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 31. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. (Central) in a nationally televised contest on ESPNU.
