ULM Thwarts Texas State’s Fourth Quarter Surge, 58-55

SAN MARCOS – Despite a strong start to the fourth quarter, the Texas State women's basketball team (7-9, 0-5 SBC) fell to ULM, 58-55, at Strahan Arena on Thursday night. Sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood scored a team-high 20 points for the Bobcats and dropped 11 in the fourth quarter.

The Bobcats began the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run over the first 4:44 of the stanza to claim a 46-41 lead after they trailed by six at the end of the third. ULM (3-13, 1-4 SBC) answered by hitting two layups, two free throws and a three to tie the game, 53-53, with 1:55 left to play. Hood connected on a jumper to put TXST back up by two, but the Warhawks' Gara Beth Self drained a three-ball with 1:05 remaining to give ULM a 56-55 lead.

Texas State had the ball with 14.6 seconds left but could not convert, and ULM hit its final two free throws to earn the victory.

The Bobcats led 28-24 at the half despite shooting 33% (9-for-27) from the field. TXST made nine free throws to ULM's one, which aided the first half effort. The third quarter proved to be problematic for the home squad as it was outscored 15-5 and converted two field goals.

Hood scored at least 20 points for the second time in the last three games, was 8-for-15 from the field and 4-for-7 in the fourth quarter with a pair of triples. Senior guard Brooke Holle led the team with eight rebounds. She hit the 119th three-pointer of her career and is one away from tying Julie Brooks (2000-04) for ninth most in program history.

Junior forward Jayla Johnson posted 10 points and was the only other Bobcat in double figures. All seven players who played for TXST got in the scoring column. Senior guard Bailey Holle registered a season-high five assists.

Self poured in an efficient 20 points (6-9, 4-5 3fg, 4-4 ft) to lead ULM and dished out a team-best five assists. Amber Thompson (17 points) and Diamond Brooks (10 points) rounded out ULM's double figure scorers.

Texas State only turned the ball over five times and had a 14-5 advantage in points off turnovers. The Warhawks outrebounded TXST, 33-28.
