SAN MARCOS – Texas State (7-10, 0-6 SBC) led by 18 points in the third quarter, but Louisiana scored 52 points in the second half to earn the road win, 73-67, on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Arena. The Ragin' Cajuns (11-6, 4-2 SBC) executed a tenacious press in the second half to fluster the Bobcats into 11 turnovers and went 23-for-23 at the free throw stripe. Texas State senior guard
Brooke Holle earned her first double-double of the campaign and scored 15 points with a season-high 11 rebounds.
TXST led UL by 15 points, 36-21, at halftime and shot 60% (15-for-25) from the field in the first half. A quick three by senior guard
Brooke Holle gave Texas State its largest lead of 18 points just 20 seconds into the third quarter. Texas State could not stop fouling and allowed a season-high 29 points in the third period while sending the opposition to the charity stripe 11 times. The Ragin' Cajuns capitalized on a 19-7 run over 5:37 of the stanza to trail by four, 46-42.
UL began the fourth on a 9-4 spurt and Skyler Goodwin made the team's only three at the 5:21 mark to tie the game, 59-59. The teams traded points as both freshman forward
Chelsea Johnson and sophomore guard
Kennedy Taylor collected two points, but UL went up for good with 2:04 left to go in the game on two Brandi Williams free throws. The Cajuns did not make a shot from the floor the last 3:57 of the game, but hit 10 free throws to end the contest on a 10-4 run.
Brooke Holle hit pair of three-pointers to move into ninth place in school history with 121 career threes. A season-best five Bobcats scored in double figures.
Brooke Holle was joined by Johnson (14 points),
Da'Nasia Hood (12 points), Taylor (11 points) and senior guard
Bailey Holle (10 points). Johnson poured in a career-high in points and made six consecutive shots in the first half.
Louisiana's was led by the trio of Ty'Reona Doucet (22 points, seven rebounds), Goodwin (20 points) and Williams (15 points). UL outscored Texas State 34-24 in the paint and 24-14 at the free throw stripe.
Texas State started the game quickly by scoring 17 points in the first quarter and 19 in the second. The Bobcats move to 5-6 this year when leading at halftime. Louisiana scored just 21 points in the first half, the lowest total allowed by Texas State to a Division I opponent this year. Louisiana converted on 24 of its 28 free threw attempts. Both teams struggled from downtown and combined to convert just 19% (6-for-32) of their three-point tries.
