NATCHITOCHES, La. – A defensive battle took place Friday night as the Texas State and Northwestern State soccer teams combined for just 12 shots as the Lady Demons came out on top 1-0 at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats drop to 4-2-1 on the year while NSU improves to 2-5-0.

Heading into the 24th minute, both teams had taken two shots apiece with the best look on goal coming from
Kamaria Williams. The freshman's first touch after coming in off the bench buzzed the outside of the far post. The Lady Demons netted the lone goal of the contest halfway through the minute when Hallie Field headed home a corner kick from Maddie Scott.

TXST's last shot of the first half came late in the 28th minute.
Renny Moore unleashed an attempt from 25 yards out that smacked off the upper left corner of the crossbar.

In the second half, the Bobcats defense held NSU to just two shots with both coming in the first six minutes of the period. The first missed wide left of the frame and the second saw
Kathryn Budde make a diving stop in the bottom left corner.

Moore had the best attempt for Texas State in the second half. In the 56th minute, the junior's long attempt was heading for the bottom left corner but the Lady Demons' Acelya Aydogmus made a diving stop at the last second.

Haley Groff got into the box with the ball on the near side and took a shot. Her attempt found the netting but on the outside for a goal kick halfway through the 65th minute.

A couple of minutes later
Kaylee Davis took on two defenders, juking them out a couple of times. Before she was able to get a shot off, Aydogmus dove and corralled the ball to end the threat.

The Bobcats controlled possession for most of the final 20 minutes but were unable to get anything going in the final third.

In goal, Budde made the team's lone save of the night.

Next up for TXST is the non-conference finale against McNeese. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
