SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team (0-2) will hit the road for the second time in the first three games of the 2019 season to take on the SMU Mustangs (2-0). Kick is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

SETTING THE SCENE
- Texas State jumped out to an early 14-3 advantage against a tough Wyoming team (2-0). The Bobcats were unable to close the door on the Cowboys, as Wyoming rallied to score the final 20 points of the game to hand TXST a 23-14 defeat.
- The Bobcats were plagued by untimely turnovers in the loss. Wyoming secured two interceptions, with one returned 72 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter. TXST also lost one fumble in the game. Wyoming outscored Texas State 14-0 in points off turnovers.
- Senior wide receiver
Hutch White secured 10 receptions in the game for 96 yards. The reception total marked the second time in his career that White amassed at least 10 receptions (11 vs. Louisiana, Oct. 6, 2018).
- Sophomore running back
Caleb Twyford made the most of his third career start with 60 yards rushing and a touchdown on 10 carries. Twyford added four receptions for 21 yards in the game.
- For the first time since the 2017 football season, four Bobcats tallied double-digit tackles in the same game. Senior linebackers

- Senior nickel
Anthony J. Taylor collected his first career interception on a Hail Mary attempt right before the end of the first half. The interception gave the TXST defense a takeaway in each of the last three games dating back to last season.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- SMU enters the Week 3 matchup against Texas State with a perfect 2-0 record. The Mustangs have earned wins at Arkansas State (37-30) and against North Texas (49-27).
- Senior running back Xavier Jones has been electric for the Mustang offense early in the 2019 season. Jones has rushed 34 times for 183 yards (5.4 yards per carry) with six touchdowns. In the victory over the Mean Green, Jones notched 16 carries for 127 yards and three touchdowns and was named American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Fellow senior tailback Ke'Mon Freeman has totaled 34 rush attempts for 120 yards and one score.
- Former Texas Longhorn quarterback, junior Shane Buechele has completed 51 passes in 80 attempts (63.8 percent) for 675 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Buechele has tallied 300-plus yards in each of his first two starts of the season.
- Junior wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. has been unstoppable this season. Against the Red Wolves, the West Virginia transfer hauled in 11 receptions for 180 yards. His encore came against UNT with six catches for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
- On the defensive side of the ball, graduate transfer safety Patrick Nelson has been all over the field. The former Fighting Illini standout has combined for 13 tackles, two sacks, and an interception through the first two weeks of the season. Nelson was tabbed American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against North Texas.
- SMU returned 17 starters (eight offense, nine defense) from a team that finished 5-7 in 2018.
SERIES HISTORY
- The two teams have met one prior time on the gridiron. SMU emerged with a 47-36 home victory on Sept. 6, 2008 after the Bobcats coughed up five turnovers. The win marked the first in the tenure of SMU head coach June Jones.
- Freshman quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell led the Mustangs to the victory with 24 completions on 37 attempts for 380 yards and five touchdowns.
- For SMU, sophomore wide receiver Aldrick Robinson hauled in 172 yards receiving and two touchdowns, while junior wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders snared three touchdown grabs in the game. Robinson would go on to enjoy a productive seven-year tenure in the National Football League. Sanders, a starting wide out for the Denver Broncos, has earned two Pro Bowl honors and a Super Bowl Championship ring and is in year 10 in the NFL.
- The Bobcats received stellar performances from senior wide receiver Cameron Luke and sophomore tailback Karrington Bush. Luke compiled six catches for 121 and three scores, while Bush added 15 rushes for 111 yards and a score.
BOBCAT PASSING ATTACK
- Junior quarterback
Gresch Jensen has taken over the reigns as starting quarterback over the last six quarters of Bobcat football. He has completed 53-of-85 (62.4 percent) for 554 yards and two touchdowns.
- In his first career start, Jensen tallied 396 passing yards and one touchdown. His yardage output was the most for a Bobcat quarterback since
Tyler Jones exploded for 475 yards in a TXST win over Incarnate Word in 2016.
- Through the first two weeks of the season, 10 Bobcat players have recorded at least two receptions.
- Freshman wide receiver
Jah'Marae Sheread burst onto the scene in the Wyoming game. He tallied career-highs in receptions (four) and yards (79), while scoring his first career touchdown.
- White leads the Bobcats with 17 catches and 156 yards through two weeks.
