Turman Nets Lone Tally in Victory over Panthers

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the second straight match, the Texas State soccer team came out on top in a 1-0 contest. On a hot Sunday afternoon, it was over Prairie View A&M at the Bobcat Soccer Complex with the lone tally coming from senior Genesis Turman.

The Bobcats improve to 2-0 on the season for the first time since 2016 while the Panthers drop to 0-2. The victory also extended TXST's undefeated streak to 15 matches, setting a new program record and currently the longest active streak in the nation as of this afternoon. Texas State also took over the longest active nationally streak for shutouts over a single opponent with its 13th consecutive shutout of PVAMU.

In the ninth minute, Texas State won a corner kick that Renny Moore sent into the box. Sarah Everett and Kaylee Davis both headed the ball before a Panther's clearance attempt saw the ball landed in open space about eight yards out. Davis passed the ball between a defenders legs and the goalkeeper dove but missed the ball.

Another defender attempted to clear the ball out of the box but it smacked Turman right in the stomach and ricocheted into the back of the net.

The Panthers had an opportunity to tie the match late in the 29th minute. Gina Zaval de Rojas flicked the ball over a charging Heather Martin. Her attempt did not have enough on it and Turman easily knocked the ball away from the goal.

Haley Groff nearly added to the score in the 32nd minute. However, the Panthers' goalkeeper was right there to make the point blank stop.

Davis had a crack at goal from the far side nearly two minutes into the second half, but her attempt rolled past the left post.

PVAMU put an attempt on goal late in the 50th minute but saw Kathryn Budde make a diving stop to keep it a one-goal contest.

Davis and Moore both placed two more shots on frame in the second half with all of them being stopped by the keeper.

TXST held a 15-3 advantage in shots and 7-2 in shots on goal. Davis led all players with five shots and two of them being on frame. Moore also saw both of her shot attempts be on goal.

Martin played the first half to earn her second win of the season. Budde made one save over the final 45 minutes.

Next up on the schedule for the Bobcats is I-35 rival UTSA. The match takes place Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Park West Athletic Complex.
