SAN MARCOS, Texas - Playing in its final home match of the season, the Texas State women's tennis team (6-11, 2-6 Sun Belt) fell by a final score of 4-0 against UTA (14-7, 5-2 Sun Belt) in a Sun Belt Conference contest Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Mavericks captured the doubles point after winning a pair of matches on court one and court three.
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez dropped a 6-1 decision against Liz
Chileno and Carla Pots on center court.
Andrea Fuchs and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez suffered their first loss as a doubles team this spring, falling 6-2 against
Almudena Boza and Lucia Natal in the No. 3 match.
UTA clinching the doubles point halted the final doubles match on court two where Texas State's
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Joy Chia Ming Ming were leading 4-2.
The Mavericks maintained control of the match by taking four of the first sets in the six singles matches. The matchup between Fuchs and
Boza on court five was the first completed with Fuchs suffering a 6-1, 7-5 loss.
Murcia-Rodriguez also battled Carla
Vives in a highly competitive match on court six where she dropped the first set, 6-4, and the second set, 7-6, after losing the tiebreaker, 7-4.
The Mavericks clinched the victory when Perez suffered a 7-5, 6-2 loss against Pons on court one.
Texas State will close out the regular season at Coastal Carolina Friday morning and at Appalachian State on Sunday morning.
