Texas State scores a pair late to down Troy, 2-0

SAN MARCOS – The Texas State softball team (27-21, 15-8 Sun Belt) took the rubber match by a score of 2-0 against the Troy Trojans (35-18, 17-8 Sun Belt) on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The program honored three seniors in the postgame Senior Day festivities: outfielder Mari Cranek, outfielder Kennedy Cline, and pitcher Krista Jacobs.

KEY MOMENTS
- Junior catcher Haleigh Davis broke the lid on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when she launched a solo home run over the left field wall. The round-tripper made the score 1-0.
- An inning later, junior infielder Hailey MacKay ripped an RBI single down the third baseline to double the Bobcat advantage. Cranek scored from second on the play to provide an extra insurance run.
- Troy placed multiple runners on base in the first and third innings but were unable to plate a run. Jacobs fanned the five-hole hitter to escape the first jam, while sophomore pitcher Meagan King induced a fly out to end the third-inning threat.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- King (17-11) earned the victory in a relief role, her second win of the series. She allowed one hit in 4.1 innings of work and struck out a pair. She worked three perfect innings out of the pen.
- Cranek led the Bobcat attack with a pair of hits in three trips to the plate. She scored one run.
- Davis made the most of her only official at bat of the game. She finished the afternoon 1-for-1 with a home run, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
- The Jacobs-King combination was highly efficient inside the circle. The tandem threw 69 pitches in 7.0 innings of work with 49 recorded strikes. Troy threw 116 total pitches with 68 called strikes. Both pitching staffs issued only one walk.

NOTABLES
- Texas State improved to 15-7 all-time against Troy. The Bobcats have won 10 of the last 13 meetings with seven of the triumphs coming in shutout efforts by TXST pitching.
- Sophomore infielder ArieAnn Bell wore an inside pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend her career-long on-base streak to 22 games. The last time she failed to reach base came on March 16 in a 3-1 loss at South Alabama.
- The fifth inning solo shot hit by Davis was the third of her '19 campaign. She is the fifth Bobcat hitter to record at least three home runs this season.
- The Bobcats have won 10-straight regular season home finales dating back to the 2010 season.

ON DECK
- Texas State will wrap up the 2019 regular season with a trip to in-state rival UT Arlington for a three-game weekend series starting at 5 p.m. on May 2.
