Bobcats clip Eagles to earn series sweep

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Texas State softball team (25-19, 13-7 Sun Belt) earned the three-game sweep over the Georgia Southern Eagles (19-24, 5-15 Sun Belt) on Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 victory on Eagle Field.

KEY MOMENTS
- Junior catcher Haleigh Davis broke the seal on the scoreboard with two away in the top of the first inning. She dumped a single to left field with runners on second and third to score the initial run of the ballgame.
- Georgia Southern answered back in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of runs. The inning was extended on a fielding error to set the stage for senior shortstop Macy Coleman. She drilled a two-run home run to left center field. GS led 2-1 after two complete innings.
- Freshman pinch runner Molly Damiani manufactured the tying run in the top of the fourth inning. She stole third base and raced home on a throwing error by the GS catcher to knot the game at 2-2.
- The Eagle defense broke down again in the top of the fifth inning. A fielding error by the second baseman allowed the go-ahead run to plate for the Bobcats. Texas State led 3-2 after five innings.
- Sophomore infielder ArieAnn Bell tagged a deep home run to left center in the top of the seventh to add an insurance run for the Bobcats. The solo shot brought the game to the final score of 4-2.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore pitcher Meagan King (16-9) earned the victory for the Bobcats in a relief outing. She pitched the final 5.1 innings of the game and allowed just one hit and one walk. She struck out four batters in shutout ball.
- The Bobcats hit .714 (5-for-7) in the leadoff position and held the Eagles hitless in seven attempts to open an inning. TXST was 6-for-7 in leadoff chances in game one of the series.
- Texas State wore out the base paths in the finale. The Cats collected five hits, five walks, and were hit by three pitches. TXST left nine batters on base in the first six innings, while Georgia Southern stranded only three batters.

NOTABLES
- Bell continued her on-base streak with a walk in the top of the third inning. She has been on base in each of the last 19 games for the Bobcats.  
- The series sweep is the third of the season for Texas State during Sun Belt Conference play. The Bobcats have also swept ULM and Georgia State this season.
- Texas State has defeated Georgia Southern in eight-straight games to include five in a row in Statesboro. TXST holds a 14-3 series edge between the two schools.

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will return to San Marcos for the final homestand of the season. TXST will take on Houston at 5:30 p.m. on April 23 before squaring off with Troy in a three-game weekend series starting a 6 p.m. on April 26 at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The week will be Teal Week as the softball program continues to raise awareness for ovarian cancer research.
