CONWAY, S.C. – The Texas State softball team (22-19, 10-7 Sun Belt) could not overcome a tough defensive outing against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (31-12, 11-7 Sun Belt) in the series finale at St. John Stadium on Sunday afternoon. TXST committed four errors in a 12-2 run-rule loss to CCU.
KEY MOMENTS
- Texas State loaded the bases in the first inning on a bunt single and a pair of walks with only one out. The next two batters fouled out and struck out looking, respectively.
- Coastal Carolina did not squander a scoring chance in the home-half of the first. After two sharply hit groundballs to short, sophomore infielder Stavi Augur laced a three-run home run over the fence in left center to give the Chants a 3-0 lead.

Tara Oltmann drove in the first run of the game for Texas State in the top of the second inning. She lifted a bases-loaded single into shallow left.
- The Chanticleers broke the game wide open in the third and fourth innings. The Bobcat defense made four untimely errors and yielded nine runs in the two frames, to include a six-run fourth.
- Freshman pinch hitter
Cat Crenek provided the final run of the game on a bases-loaded fielder's choice play to second base. The run scored brought the game to the final tally of 12-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Bobcats combined to hit 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and finished 1-for-6 with the bases loaded. On the other hand, the Chanticleers ended the game 6-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
- CCU out-hit TXST by a count of 11-3. Texas State drew eight walks in the game and left nine runners in scoring position.
- The defense committed a season-high four errors. The miscues led to six unearned runs scored by Coastal Carolina.
NOTABLES
- Oltmann extended her team lead in runs batted in to 31 for the season. She ranks sixth among Sun Belt Conference leaders in RBI.
- The Bobcats hold a record of 2-13 when opponents score first this season. The Chanticleers struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- Sophomore pitcher
Meagan King (14-9) suffered the loss to snap her 10-game win streak in the circle. Her last loss came against Louisiana on March 8.
- The series defeat marks the first setback against Coastal Carolina in the brief history between the two programs. TXST had swept the previous two meetings against CCU.
ON DECK
- The Bobcats will close out the two-week road trip with a three-game set in Statesboro, Ga. against the Georgia Southern Eagles. Game one of the series with begin at 5 p.m. CT on April 18.
