STATESBORO, Ga. – The Texas State baseball team (21-13, 7-6 Sun Belt) fell 12-0 in the series opener against Georgia Southern (20-14, 8-5 Sun Belt) at J.I. Clements Stadium Friday evening in a contest that was delayed nearly two hours because of lightning.

Suffering the loss on the mound was Hunter McMahon (4-4). He struck out five in four inning while giving up six runs on six hits. Picking up the victory was Seth Shuman (4-4) after throwing seven scoreless innings and striking out eight.

Also seeing action on the rubber for TXST was Reece Gould and Dontae Woodard. Gould recorded his first two collegiate strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work. Woodard worked the final 1.2 innings with a strikeout and gave up one run.

Posting the only hits, all singles, of the game for the Bobcats was Felipe Rodriguez, Dalton Shuffield and Jaxon Williams. Also reaching base were Jaylen Hubbard, John Wuthrich and Skyler Valentine. Both Hubbard and Valentine were able to draw a walk apiece and Wuthirch was hit by a pitch his first time at the plate.

GS opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with four runs. One run scored on a Nolan Tressler double that landed just fair down the right field line. Mason McWhorter followed with a three-run home run two batters later to complete the scoring for the frame.

The game was halted because of lightning in the area at 6:32 p.m. CDT with one out in the bottom of the third and a runner on second. The teams were about to resume at 7:10 p.m. before another strike within the eight-mile radius hit and causing another delay.

At 8:17 p.m. CDT, the game resumed and saw GS tack on two runs in the frame to extend its advantage to 6-0.

The Eagles would tack on another run in the sixth when Blake Evans singled through the left side in the drawn in infield. Their advantage was extended even more in the seventh when GS scored five runs.
