STATESBORO, Ga. - The Texas State women's tennis team dropped its third straight match on Sunday, falling 4-1 at Georgia Southern at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Bobcats opened the match taking an early 1-0 lead when Texas State captured the doubles point with strong performances by
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Joy Chia Ming Ming, and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and
Andrea Fuchs. Israel-Lewis and Chia Ming Ming edged Lindsay Truscott and Luisa Hrda by a score of 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Murcia-Rodriguez and Fuchs also defeated Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Deme by the same score on court three.
However, Texas State couldn't build off the lead in singles. Georgia Southern tied the team score at 1-1 when Fuchs fell 6-2, 6-1 against Hrda on court six. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead when Chia Ming Ming fell 6-0, 6-2 on court three against Mila Hartig. Murcia-Rodriguez also lost 6-2, 6-4 against Elizabeth Goines in the No. 5 match. Georgia Southern clinched the victory when Israel-Lewis was defeated in three sets against Bujan by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 on court two.
The Bobcats return home to host Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference match at 10 a.m. April 6 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
