SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior
Jaylen Hubbard did not let his second chance to win the game for the Texas State baseball team (16-9) get away from him in the 10th inning with a walk-off single to down Rice (9-18) 7-6 Tuesday night at Bobcat Ballpark.

The victory gave the Bobcats their second-ever season sweep of the Owls. The only other season sweep came was in the 1988 season.

Zachary Leigh (1-1) earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and giving up one hit and walk. Suffering the loss was Drake Greenwood (0-2) after he surrendered a run on three hits and two walks in two innings.

Starting on the rubber for TXST was
Garrett Herrmann. He struck out three while giving up two runs on seven hits. Both
Brent Hebert and
Brayden Theriot threw an inning of relief. Also seeing action out of the bullpen was
Kyle Bradford and
Anthony Pagano.

Travon Benton,
Dalton Shuffield and Hubbard all finished with two hits apiece. Benton totaled three RBIs and scored twice and both
Chase Evans and Hubbard drove in two runs each.
Will Hollis was held hitless but drew two walks to extend his reached base streak to 19 games.

Shuffield led off the game for the Bobcats with a bunt single down the third baseline.
Jaxon Williams reached base on a fielder's choice and Shuffield slide in safely to second after the Owls' Trei Cruz misplayed a ball. After both moved into scoring position on a groundout, Hubbard flew out deep enough to left field to bring home Shuffield and put TXST up 1-0.

The Bobcats extended its lead in the fourth. Benton drove in two runs when he sent a 0-1 pitch back up the middle. Two pitches later,
Chase Evans smashed an offering into the netting over the left field fence for his second home run of the season and make it a 5-0 lead.

Bradley Gneiting hit a 2-RBI double in the next half inning to put Rice on the scoreboard. It was the first runs scored by the Owls against TXST in 22.1 innings.

In the sixth, Rice scored another run on a Rodrigo Duluc double. The bottom half of the frame saw Benton smash a 2-1 pitch over the right center field fence for his first home run of the season and give TXST a 6-3 advantage.

The Owls tallied a run in the seventh and then tied the game with two runs in the eighth.

A fielding error followed by two walks loaded the bases with two outs for Hubbard in the bottom of the eighth. The senior third baseman was unable to take advantage of his opportunity to put the Bobcats back in front as he went down swinging to end the frame.

Felipe Rodriguez drew a walk to start off the 10th and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Shuffield. Williams singled to center field to put runners on the corners as Rodriguez had to wait to make sure the ball wasn't caught. Two batters later, Hubbard was given a green light on a 3-0 pitch and laced it to center field for a walk-off single.

Texas State returns to Sun Belt Conference action this weekend with a trip to face Appalachian State with the first game scheduled for 4 p.m. CDT on Friday.
