Bobcats earn split against Shockers, Blue Demons

HOUSTON – The Texas State softball team (9-9) dropped a 3-0 decision against the Wichita State Shockers (12-4) before taming the DePaul Blue Demons (15-2) by a final tally of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

GAME 1 – WS 3, TXST 0
KEY MOMENTS

- Sophomore outfielder Bailee Nickerson of Wichita State hit a one-out, two-RBI single in the top of the first inning to give the Shockers the early 2-0 lead.
- Junior infielder Bailee Carter broke up the no-hit bid in the bottom of the sixth when she led off the inning with a bunt single.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Bobcats accumulated only six base runners all afternoon, three via hits and three drew walks. Double plays and base running miscues led the TXST only leaving two runners on base despite being held scoreless.
- Senior pitcher Krista Jacobs (0-1) took the loss for Texas State. She tossed 4.1 innings of work and allowed two earned runs on six hits and three strikeouts.

NOTABLES
- The bagel on the scoreboard for the Bobcats represented the fourth shutout thrown by opposing pitchers in the last two tournaments. In fact, TXST has been held scoreless in four of the last seven contests.
- The loss represented the first two-game skid of the season for Texas State.

GAME 2 – TXST 3, DPU 0
KEY MOMENTS

- The Bobcats scored all three runs in the third inning. Freshman outfielder Jordyn Smith drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single to right field.
- Sophomore infielder Tara Oltmann smacked a double to right center field to score the final two runs of the third inning. Oltmann hit the game-winning three-run home run against Texas Southern to open the tournament.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore Meagan King (4-6) pitched a gem of a game. She threw all 7.0 innings and scattered three hits in the contest. King fanned three Blue Demon hitters.
- Junior outfielder Christiana McDowell and junior infielder Hailey MacKay each recorded tow hits in three trips to the plate. McDowell scored one run.
- The second and third spot in the lineup provided all of the run support for Texas State as Smith and Oltmann combined to hit 2-for-8 with three RBI and a run scored.

NOTABLES
- The game marked the first outing of the season in which King did not allow a run while pitching more than 2.0 innings of work.
- The victory was also the first time in which Texas State held an opponent scoreless for an entire game. The Bobcats had yielded at least three runs in 16-of-17 games entering the contest against DePaul.

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will competed in the third and final day of the tournament in a rematch against Houston at 2 p.m. from Cougar Softball Stadium.
