Troy, Ala. – Playing without one of its top three players, the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss at Troy in both team's Sun Belt Conference opener Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats played the match without senior
Julia Navajo-Melendez, who plays on Texas State's top doubles team and is the No. 3 player in singles. The Trojans took advantage as they won the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match by forfeit.
Troy captured the team doubles point when Ju Pei Hsieh and Chunxi Guo won the top-seeded doubles match against Rishona Israel Lewis and
Joy Chia Ming Ming by a score of 6-3.
The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the team score when Tingting Pei defeated Chia Ming Ming by a score of 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 3 court.
Texas State's lone point in the match came in the top singles match where
Ana Perez defeated Matea Mihaljevic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.
Troy clinched the victory when Maria Casas Blas defeated
Andrea Fuchs by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
The loss drops Texas State's record to 4-6 overall, while Troy improved to 7-5. The Bobcats conclude their road trip at South Alabama at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
