TAMPA, Fla. – The Texas State softball team (7-7) was blanked by the USF Bulls (8-7) in a 3-0 loss on Sunday at the USF Softball Stadium. The game represented the final of a four-game tournament for the Bobcats in the USF-Rawlings Invitational.
KEY MOMENTS
- USF junior outfielder AnaMarie Bruni hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning to open the scoring. The hit came with two outs in the frame.
- Texas State loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning with two outs. Freshman pinch hitter Cat Cranek was unable to produce a run-scoring hit as she fouled out to third to end the inning and the scoring threat.
- In the top of the seventh inning, the last offensive opportunity for Texas State, the first two runners reached via walk. Unfortunately, the next two struck out before a groundout ended the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior catcher
Haleigh Davis saw the ball well throughout the game. She was the lone Bobcat to record a multi-hit game as she went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk.
- Junior pitcher
Dalilah Barrera (5-1) suffered her first loss of the season. She last just 2.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on four walks and one hit. Barrera struck out two batters.
- Texas State failed to register a hit in 14 plate appearances with runners on base and finished the game 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. As a result, the Bobcats left 10 runners on base.
NOTABLES
- Texas State was shutout for the second time in three games after scoring at least two runs in each of the first 11 games of the season.
- Senior pitcher
Krista Jacobs worked her second longest outing of her career. She pitched 4.0 innings of shutout softball and allowed just three hits and a walk.
ON DECK
- The Bobcats be off until a 10:30 a.m. first pitch on March 1. The Bobcats will open the 2019 Houston Red & White Showcase will a matchup against DePaul. TXST will also take on Texas Southern and Houston in the tournament.
