Defensive miscues cost Bobcats in 4-3 loss

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team (5-5) could not close out Sam Houston State (5-6) on Wednesday evening at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The Bearkats stole a 4-3 game from the Bobcats in eight innings.

KEY MOMENTS
- After a leadoff hit-by-pitch and a walk gave the Bobcats two baserunners in the bottom of the first inning, junior infielder Hailey MacKay dumped a single into left center to score the first two runs of the ballgame.
- The Bobcats coughed up a two-run lead late in the game by allowing Sam Houston State to score a run each in the fifth and the sixth inning. The Bearkcats scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to take SHSU's first lead of the game.
- Sophomore infielder ArieAnn Bell crushed a solo home run to center field, her third of the season, in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring the Bobcats with one run.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore pitcher Meagan King (2-4) was credited with the loss despite not allowing an earned run. She pitched 2.0 innings and yielded two unearned runs.
- Bell led the Bobcat offense with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. She was the lone Bobcat hitter to secure multiple hits in the game.
- Sam Houston State outhit Texas State 9-6 in the game. SHSU recorded at least one hit in six innings, while holding TXST hitless in three frames.

NOTABLES
- Junior outfielder Christiana McDowell saw her seven-game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-2 with a walk drawn. McDowell has successfully reached base in 9-of-10 games this season.
- Junior pitcher Dalilah Barrera started the game and pitched the first 6.0 innings. She was pulled after allowing one earned run (two runs) on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four.

ON DECK
- The Bobcats will be back on the road for more tournament play over the weekend as participants in the USF-Rawlings Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
