Texas State Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Stephen F. Austin 7-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team won their third match of the season when the Bobcats shut out Stephen F. Austin 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
Texas State (3-4) began the day capturing the team doubles point by winning two of three doubles matches. First, Joy Chia Ming Ming and Sofia Murcia Rodriguez defeated Mera Carvalho and Armelle Cerdan by a score of 6-2 on the No. 3 court. Then, Rishona Israel-Lewis and Josefina Cassara beat Nida Kamal and Darinka Tiboldi, 6-3, in the No. 2 match to clinch the point.
 
Texas State also won four singles matches in dominant fashion. Ana Perez, Israel-Lewis and Murcia-Rodriguez won each of their matches by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Perez won the top-seeded match against Gabi Guilarte, Israel-Lewis beat Tiboldi in the No. 2 match and Murcia-Rodriguez beat Carvalho in the No. 6 contest. Chia Ming Ming also won the No. 5-seeded match by a score of 6-1, 6-2 over Kamal.
 
Julia Navajo-Melendez won the first set of her No. 3 match against Cerdan by a score of 6-4. In the second set, Cerdan jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Navajo-Melendez came back to win the next six points to capture the set the by a score of 6-4 to clinch the victory.
 
In the No. 4 match, Cassara won the first set of her match against Kaja Ljubic by the score of 7-6 after winning a 7-4 tiebreaker. Cassara came back to win the second set and clinch the victory by the score of 6-2.
 
The Bobcats return to action at March 9-10 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. They host I-35 rival UTSA March 9 at 11 a.m. and Missouri State March 10 at 11 a.m.
