SAN MARCOS, Texas – After getting out to an early lead, the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss against I-35 rival UTSA on Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats took an early 1-0 lead in the match when they won two of the three doubles matches. The day began with UTSA's Jasmin Starr and Kylee Kato winning the top-seeded doubles match 6-0 over
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez.

But,
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Joy Chia Ming Ming defeated Charleen Tiwari and Mariah Plauth by a score of 6-2 in the No. 2 match. Then,
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez and
Andrea Fuchs overcame a 3-2 deficit and rallied to score the next four points in the match for a 6-3 victory.

However, the Roadrunners rebounded to win all six singles matches to capture the victory. With the loss, the Bobcats falls to 3-5 this season, while UTSA improves to 7-8 this year.

Texas State will have a short turnaround as the Bobcats host Missouri State Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Texas State opens Sun Belt Conference play on March 16-17 when the Bobcats travel to Troy on Mar. 16 and to South Alabama on Mar. 17.
