Bobcats Fall in Road Non-Conference Finale at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas State (6-4) played from behind for all but 10 seconds of the contest and dropped its road non-conference finale at TCU (9-1) 79-52 on Sunday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth.

Sophomore point guard Kennedy Taylor scored 13 points and dished out six assists to lead the team in both statistical categories. Taylor hit three treys to match her career high and scored eight of her 13 in the first half. Senior guard Bailey Holle posted an efficient nine points (3-for-6) and collected six boards, three assists and one block.

The Bobcats found themselves in a hole from the opening tip as the hosts ripped off 17 straight points until the first TXST basket was scored by Bailey Holle at the 4:35 mark.  The Horned Frogs set a season-high for points in a quarter and led 26-9 after the first 10 minutes.

Texas State held TCU without a field goal for 4:30 during the second but dropped the quarter 19-10 and trailed 45-19 at halftime. Taylor was a bright spot in the first half and hit 2-of-3 three-point field goals. TCU used its athleticism and length to turn Texas State over 11 times and score 16 points off turnovers.

TXST played its best during the third quarter when it outscored TCU 19-14 and went on a 9-0 run midway through the stanza. Bailey Holle served as the main sparkplug and posted seven points.

The Horned Frogs claimed the fourth period, 20-14 and shot 58% (7-for-12) from the floor. Guard Lauren Heard led all scorers with 14 points and TCU had three players in double figures.

Texas State shot 34% (20-for-59) from the field, 23% (5-for-22) from downtown and 70% (7-10) at the charity stripe. TCU hit 46% (26-for-57) of its shots, was 50% (9-for-18) from three and 72% (18-for-25) from the foul line.

Senior guard Brooke Holle posted a season-high five assists as the Bobcats registered 16 dimes on 20 made baskets.

The Horned Frogs, who are receiving votes in the AP Poll and USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll, claimed a season-high 31-point lead in the fourth quarter and improved to 8-3 in the series against Texas State.

Texas State plays its non-conference finale back home at Strahan Arena at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30 against Alcorn State.
