HANOVER, N.H. – Texas State notched its fourth consecutive win and first road victory of the season by defeating Dartmouth 61-51 at Leede Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats (6-2) used their size and athleticism to outscore the Big Green (5-4) 30-6 in the paint and limit Dartmouth to a season low six points in the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats continued their defensive trends and held the home squad to single digit scoring periods in the second (6) and the fourth. Texas State forced Dartmouth into a 15-for-46 (32.6%) shooting performance from the floor, its lowest amount of made field goals this season. TXST turned the Big Green over 20 times to remain in the top-20 nationally in the statistic.
Texas State powered past a low scoring start of the game to outscore the Big Green 17-9 in the second and were able to survive dropping the third quarter, 23-14. TXST led by 10 points early in the third quarter, but Dartmouth stormed back to claim a five-point lead at the 2:11 mark of the period.
The Bobcats had a one-point lead, 45-44, to end the third and then outscored the opposition 17-6 in the decisive fourth quarter. Three of Dartmouth's starters, Annie McKenna, Katie Douglas and Elle Louie, had four personal fouls in the fourth and were spectators from the bench most of the period. A late free throw parade allowed the Bobcats to win by 10, but the game was played much closer than the final indicated.
Sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood led the way for Texas State with a game-high 15 points. Senior guard Brooke Holle poured in 11 points and sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor added 10. Taylor scored in double digits for the fourth time in the last five games, dished out four assists and generated two steals. Holle collected a team-high seven rebounds and hit a triple. Sophomore guard Ja'Kayla Bowie played important minutes in the fourth quarter and kept Dartmouth's leading scorer, Asha Taylor, off balance.
Texas State shot 36% (21-for-58) from the floor, 18% (3-for-17) from three and 62% (16-for-26) from the free throw line. Dartmouth converted on 36% (8-for-22) of its threes and 62% (13-for-21) from the foul line. The Bobcats won the rebounding battle, 40-36.
Taylor led the Big Green with 12 points and was the only player for the Green and White in double figures.
