Balanced Bobcats Scoring Attack Trounces Bulldogs, 72-31

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team (1-0) won its home opener for the 16th consecutive season, as it downed Texas Lutheran (0-0), 72-31, on Tuesday evening at Strahan Arena. Sophomore forward Jaeda Reed poured in a career best 18 points on nine-for-14 shooting and led a balanced scoring attack where seven players scored seven points or more.

Texas State's defense forced Texas Lutheran into 32 turnovers, the most in the last nine years.

"I'm really proud of my team in doing what we asked them to do to limit their three-point shooting," said Texas State head coach Zenarae Antoine. "We got them to turn the ball over, capitalized on them and had the ability to score inside and out, which we talked about a lot in the preseason."

Texas Lutheran was able to hang with the Bobcats for the first handful of minutes, but the Bobcats opened the floodgates in the second quarter and outscored TLU, 19-2. TXST put up 21 points in the third quarter, its most of the night, and outpaced the Bulldogs, 39-21 in the second half.

The Bobcats registered 51 rebounds and grabbed a Coach Antoine era best 27 offensive rebounds. The defense was stout around the perimeter and held TLU to 16.7% (2-for-12) from long range.

Reed was the only Bobcat in double figures in the contest and was followed up with nine-point performances by sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor and senior guard Brooke Holle. Junior college transfer forward Lille Moore racked up seven points and did not miss from the field in her Texas State debut.

Freshman guard Jessica Paz y Puente connected on the first three-point field goal of her career in the second half and dished out three dimes. Freshmen guard Keslyn King and forward Chelsea Johnson joined Paz y Puente in the scoring column in their first collegiate action.

TXST used its size advantage and had 46 points in the paint to TLU's 16. The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Cami Davis' six points. Texas Lutheran is an NCAA Division III institution and this game does not count toward its record.

The Bobcats will play their first Division I opponent of the season on the road on Friday, November 8th at 5 p.m. against Oral Roberts.
