SAN MARCOS, Texas – Behind senior guard Brooke Holle's career-high six threes and a game-high 21 points Texas State (2-1) toppled UTPB 83-45 at Strahan Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats connected on 13 three-point field goals, the second most in the Sun Belt Conference this season and highest total since 2017 against Georgia State, while setting a season-high in points. Conversely, the defense allowed the Falcons (2-2) to make just 1-of-23 (4%) long range tries.
"There are a lot of positives to focus on today one being we had the opportunity to play different personnel in clusters," said Texas State head coach Zenarae Antoine. "Its import to find comfort and rhythm early on at home, which we had. Brooke does what she does well and shared the ball. When it came to her she took the shot and the rest is history."
Holle was efficient from the floor and shot 7-for-11 overall and 6-for-8 from behind the arc. The Austin, Texas native eclipsed her previous career-high of five treys that she set last year against Louisiana. Her 105 career three-point field goals place the guard 13 triples away from entering the top-10 in program history.
Sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood joined Holle in double figures and netted 12 points (5-of-8). She posted seven points in the first quarter and helped TXST solidify a 22-12 lead after the first. Freshman forward Chelsea Johnson collected a career day with 11 points and led the team with nine rebounds.
Defensively, the Bobcats had their best quarter in the second. The Falcons made just 2-of-16 field goal attempts and turned the ball over five times. The Bobcats led 38-18 at the intermission.
Texas State continued to build on its lead in the third and led by 28 points at the 6:59 mark. TXST kept its foot on the gas in the fourth period registering a season-best 26 points in a period. The Bobcats ballooned their lead to 40 points with 1:52 left in the contest. Freshman guard Jessica Paz y Puente played the final four minutes of the game and converted all three of her three-point field goals.
The Bobcats led in points in the paint (30-20), second chance points (16-9), fast break points (11-5) and bench points (39-18). Texas State assisted on 21 of its 29 field goals and was led by sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor's seven.
