LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Texas State women's basketball team (2-2) competed to a three-point deficit at halftime to Kansas, but ultimately fell 68-48 at Allen Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks (5-0) led 33-30 at the half and held the Bobcats to 18 second half points to remain undefeated.
KU stormed out to a 25-17 lead after the first quarter, but the TXST defense locked in and limited the home squad to its lowest scoring quarter of the season (eight points) in the second period. The Jayhawks shot a paltry 16.7% (5-for-16) in the second and Texas State and capitalized with five points off three turnovers. Sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor, senior guard Brooke Holle and sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood scored all 13 points of the stanza. Taylor scored from the paint and Hood nailed a triple in the last two minutes of the period to bring Texas State within three at the half. The Bobcats trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half.
The home squad utilized an 11-2 run to begin the second half to widen the margin by double-digits and led by single-digits just one more time during the remainder of the game. Kansas scored 19 points in the third and 16 in the fourth to continue to build its lead to the game's largest at the final horn.
TXST was led by Taylor's season-high 14 points and Holle's eight rebounds. Texas State shot 31% from the field (19-for-61) and 20% (5-for-20) from behind the arc. The Jayhawks shot 43% (26-for-40) and 42% (11-for-26) from three. Kansas led in total rebounds (47-34), points off turnovers (17-9), points in the paint (26-20), second chance points (17-8) and bench scoring (21-17).
