Texas State Returns to Sun Belt Conference Play When Bobcats Host ULM Thursday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team (2-3, 1-0) will host a "White Out" game on Oct. 10 when the Bobcats battle ULM (2-3, 1-0) in a Sun Belt Conference contest. The game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. on ESPNU.  Bobcat fans are encouraged to wear white at the game.

SETTING THE SCENE
Following a 24-3 victory over Nicholls State on Sept. 28, Texas State comes into the game looking to win its third straight game for the first time since 2013 and its third consecutive home game for the first time since 2011.
 
The Bobcats opened their Sun Belt Conference slate with a 37-34 win over Georgia State in triple-overtime. The victory was the first time Texas State won its Sun Belt Conference opener since Oct. 4, 2014. The win over Georgia State also was the first Sun Belt Conference home victory since defeating ULM by a score of 16-3 on Nov. 19, 2015.
 
Nikolas Daniels ranks seventh among Sun Belt Conference leaders in tackles. He led the Bobcats with nine tackles against Nicholls after recording nine stops versus Georgia State.
 
Bryan London II ranks No. 21 among national leaders in total tackles and second in the Sun Belt Conference with 9.6 tackles per game. He has tallied 10 or more tackles in three of the last four games. He tied a school record with 22 stops against Georgia State after leading the Bobcats with 10 tackles at SMU and tying Nikolas Daniels with a team-high of 11 stops against Wyoming.
 
Sophomore Caleb Twyford led Texas State with 137 yards on 27 carries against Georgia State and ran for 73 yards on 17 carries. Twyford's 137 rushing yards against the Panthers are the most in a Sun Belt Conference game this season.
 
Freshman Micah Hilts caught his first touchdown catch against Nicholls and had four receptions for 64 yards versus the Colonels. He also had two catches for 43 yards against Wyoming.
 
Gresch Jenson completed a season-best 75.9 percent (22-29) of his passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns with just one interception against Nicholls. Jenson threw for a season-best 394 yards against Wyoming. The yardage total was the highest by a Bobcat quarterback since 2016.
 
SCOUTING THE WARHAWKS
ULM also enters Thursday night's game with a 2-3 overall record and is 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play after falling 52-35 against Memphis last Saturday night. The Warhawks opened Sun Belt play with a 30-17 victory over South Alabama on Sept. 28.
 
 ULM grabbed national attention when the Warhawks lost 45-55 in overtime at Florida State on Sept. 7 after opening the season with a 31-9 victory against Grambling State. ULM also fell at Iowa State on Sept. 21.
 
John Johnson leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks eighth among the NCAA FBS rushing leaders after averaging 119.6 yards per game. He also ranks 11th nationally with 7.12 yards per carry after running for 119 yards on 19 carries.
 
Senior quarterback Caleb Evans has completed 101 of 162 passes for 1,172 yards, 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He also has 1,458 yards in total offense and leads ULM with five rushing touchdowns. Evans has thrown for 7,743 yards, 47 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions during his career.
 
Tight end Josh Pederon leads ULM with 23 receptions, 283 yards, and five touchdowns receptions. Eighteen of his 23 catches have resulted in a first down or touchdown.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday night's game marks the 16th meeting between ULM and Texas State. The Bobcats have a 4-11 series record against the Warhawks.
 
Texas State looks to win its first game against ULM since 2015. The Bobcats have lost their last three games against the Warhawks, 40-34 on Oct. 15, 2016, in Monroe, 45-27 on Oct. 7, 2017, in San Marcos, and 20-14 on Oct. 20, 2018, in Monroe.
 
 Texas State's last win was a 16-3 triumph on Oct. 19, 2015, in San Marcos. The Bobcats also won 22-18 at Monroe on Oct. 25, 2014, in a game when current New York Giant linebacker David Mayo set a school record with 22 tackles.
 
The Bobcats have a 2-4 record against ULM since Texas State became a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.
