Rupp Named NFCA Third Team All-American

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas State's Randi Rupp has been named a Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the association announced Wednesday.

The NFCA All-American honor is the second in Rupp's career. The senior claimed second team accolades following the 2017 season. She is a four-time NFCA All-Central Region honoree, earning first team recognition each of the last two seasons after picking up second team nods as a freshman in 2015 and sophomore in 2016.

"This is an amazing feat to culminate a tremendous career for Randi," said head coach Ricci Woodard. "To post back-to-back All-American seasons is not easy, but anyone that has followed the last four years has seen the growth of Randi Rupp into one of the nation's top pitchers. She dedicated herself to excellence and this is a direct result of that mindset. We are extremely proud of what Randi has accomplished and done for Texas State Softball."

The All-American honor is the fifth earned by a Bobcat in program history, with each coming under the direction of Woodard. Rupp joins Kristen Zaleski (second team, 2003 and 2004) as the only Bobcats to garner back-to-back NFCA All-America honors. Jessica Chase (third team, 2001) also drew national recognition.

"I am honored to receive this award," said Rupp. "I could not have done it without my teammates and coaches pushing and encouraging me along the way. I am thankful for all the support from my family and Texas State during my career."

A two-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and four-time First Team All-Sun Belt Selection, Rupp, concluded the season with a 1.26 ERA, the second-lowest mark of her illustrious career. In Sun Belt play, Rupp lowered her ERA to 0.55, allowing only nine earned runs in 115.0 innings of work. The Mont Belvieu, Texas native posted 317 strikeouts in 278.1 innings in the circle, giving her 300-plus strikeouts in three consecutive seasons. In addition to owning the league's top ERA and most strikeouts, Rupp led the conference in batters struck out looking (80) and wins (28). Her 317 strikeouts rank second in the NCAA, while her 28 wins rank tied for seventh, nine shutouts and 1.26 ERA each rank 17th nationally.

This season Rupp, who earned a league-best five Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week nods, surpassed several program records, including career strikeouts (1,270), career victories (110), career innings pitched (1057.1) and career appearances (187). On March 18 Rupp tossed her second career perfect games, holding Coastal Carolina off of the base paths for six complete innings in a 10-0 conference victory. She fanned double-digit batters in 12 contests, including a career-best 21 strikeouts in a 13-inning shutout against South Alabama on April 7. Finally, she allowed two or fewer runs 28 starts and struck out at least five opposing batters in 30 of her 47 appearances.
