SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team lost 7-4 to Louisiana in the first game of a weekend Sun Belt Conference series Friday night at Bobcat Ballpark.

The Bobcats dropped to 23-25-1 overall and 11-14 in the Sun Belt, while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 29-21 on the year and 15-10 in league action.

Junior
Ryan Newman led the Bobcats with a 2-for-4 effort that included his sixth home run of the season. Senior
Derek Scheible ripped his team-leading 11th homer of the campaign, and classmate
Jared Huber and true freshman
Dalton Shuffield both added two hits.

Sophomore
Nicholas Fraze (5-4) took the loss after allowing five runs on 11 hits, while striking out five and walking zero. Junior
Braden Pearson pitched the next 2.1 innings and gave up just two runs (one earned) on four hits. Fellow junior
Brayden Theriot struck out the side in the eighth.

Hayden Cantrelle went 5-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored for Louisiana. Daniel Lahare was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Kennon Fontenot, Zach LaFleur and Tyler Stover all added a pair of hits.

Colten Schmidt (7-0) earned the win after allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out four. Logan Stoelke tossed a scoreless 2.2 frames to collect his ninth save. He struck out three and walked three, while conceding two hits.
