LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State men's golf team closed out the Louisiana Classics on Tuesday with a 4-over 292 to total a 2-over par 866 to finish in eighth place.
Logan Lockwood led the Bobcats with a 1-under par 215 behind a 71 (-1) in the final round.
Lockwood started his day with eight consecutive pars before bogeying the ninth. He returned to even par with a birdie on the 11
th hole, but posted a bogey on the very next hole. The sophomore went back-to-back with birdies on holes 14 and 15, and ended his round with three straight pars. Overall, Lockwood finished in a tie for 21
st with three other golfers.
Finishing at even par 216 for the tournament was
Logan Davis after a 73 (+1) on Tuesday. He opened the day with two birdies over the first three holes and added another on the seventh to make the turn at 1-under par. Two hiccups on the 13
th and 14
th holes caused him to go over par as he closed out the day with four consecutive pars. The junior ended up in a tie for 25
th with four other competitors.
Ending up one stroke behind Davis was
Calvin Ross at 1-over par 217 with a final round 74 (+2). He recorded three birdies on the day.
Alvaro Carol Estrems finished up a shot back of Ross at 2-over 216 and also shot a 74 on Tuesday. The Spaniard recorded a team-high four birdies on the day.
TXST finished a stroke back of Sam Houston State for seventh place but were six shots better than Toledo and I-35 rival UTSA.
Winning the team title was 3
rd-ranked Texas A&M at 29-under par 835. The Aggies bested 11
th-ranked Illinois by eight strokes. Rounding out the top five were 28
th-ranked Kent State (-13), McNeese (-11) and 26
th-ranked Louisville (-5).
The individual title went to Texas A&M's Dan Erickson, who shot a 54-hole total 206 (-10) and bested McNeese's Blake Elliot by a shot.
Next up for the Bobcats is the Bob Sitton Invitational that will take place Mar. 12-14 in Irving, Texas at the TPC Four Seasons.
