TROY, Ala. – In the only match of the weekend, the Texas State soccer team downed Troy 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the Troy Soccer Complex behind goals from
Kaylee Davis and
Kayla Geren.

With the victory, the Bobcats improve to 9-5-1 on the season and continue to maintain their grasp on first in the Sun Belt Conference standings at 7-0-1. The Trojans drop to 3-12-1 overall and 2-5-0 in conference play.

Troy had the first solid look on goal in the fifth minute off a free kick. Lauren Aldrich got her headed the ball but the ball hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced back into play and cleared away.

In the 15
th minute,
Mackenzie Smith sent a long through ball towards the right corner.
Kayla Geren got to the ball and sent a low short under the charging, diving keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Kaylee Davis had two great opportunities in the middle of the period. She got a low shot off in the box that had the goalkeeper beat but buzzed the outside of the left post. The Allen, Texas native followed in the 29
th attempt with a one-on-one opportunity but saw the keeper come up with a big stop as Davis tried to dribble around her.

Troy would control possession for most of the second half but it was the Bobcats that would find the back of the net.
Kaylee Davis ran on to a long through ball from
Genesis Turman despite having her jersey pulled. She then sent a shot into the left netting in the 79
th minute.

Just over a minute and a half later Davis scored her second goal of the match to put the match away. A toe poked pass from Turman went to Davis. The junior forward unleashed a rip from 25 yards out that went through the goalkeeper's hands and into the right corner of frame. Also getting credited with an assist was
Holly Streber.

Davis took a match-high seven shots and has now scored 14 goals on the season. Her goal total places her in a tie for third in program history for a season with Britney Curry's 2010 campaign.

Turman's two assists are a new career-high for her in a match. It also doubled her total on the season to four.

In goal,
Heather Martin made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the year. The junior has set a new career-high with 64 stops, the 10
th most by a Bobcat keeper for a season.
