Men’s Basketball Hits the Road to Take on Arkansas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Riding a three-game winning streak, the Texas State men's basketball team hits the road to take on Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Convocation Center.
 
The Bobcats enter the game 10-7 on the season and tied for second at 3-1 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Red Wolves are 6-11 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
 
Live stats and a video stream will be available for the game with links on the team's schedule page. Bill Culhane will have the call on the radio with the game being broadcast on 103.1 FM out of Austin and KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos. Fans can also listen to the game through the TuneIn Radio app on their mobile device.
 
Nijal Pearson heads into the game leading TXST at 14.4 points per game and 24 steals. The sophomore is shooting 40.7 percent from the field and has made 28 three-pointers. He is second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
 
Leading the Bobcats with 6.1 rpg is Immanuel King. The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native is shooting 61.2 percent and putting up 9.9 ppg. His 13 blocks are the second most on the squad.
 
Alex Peacock netted 27 points in last weekend's games to increase his season average to 8.1 ppg. He has made 50.6 percent of his shots, 38.2 percent from beyond the arc and 76.1 percent at the free throw line. The junior is one of three players with double-digit steals this season with 22.
 
Knocking down 28 treys at a team-high 40.0 percent is Tyler Blount.
 
Tre'Larenz Nottingham will be stepping into the starting point guard role after Marlin Davis' season ending injury on Saturday. The junior dished out six assists in 35 minutes against Troy on Saturday. For the season, he is averaging 4.2 ppg, 1.7 rpg and 1.7 apg.
 
Scouting Arkansas State
Arkansas State heads into Thursday having lost three straight after defeating ULM in both teams' Sun Belt opener. Most recently, the Red Wolves dropped road games to Georgia Southern and Georgia State. ASU is 5-2 this season when playing at home with losses to Louisiana and UT Martin, and non-conference wins over Abilene Christian, Culver-Stockton, Henderson State and Howard.
 
Devin Simms paces the Red Wolves in scoring (16.6), three-point percentage (36.5), free throw percentage (76.3), rebounding (5.8) and steals (22). He has made 49.7 percent of his shots and made 19 three-pointers.
 
Ty Cockfield enters averaging 14.2 ppg with a team-high 37 made treys. The junior college transfer has connected on 46.9 percent of his shots and is second on the team with 38 assists.
 
Putting up 10.1 ppg and shooting a team-high 58.4 percent from the field is Tamas Bruce. He missed both games last weekend in Georgia after being suspended because of a violation of team rules.
 
Grantham Gillard is averaging 8.9 ppg with a 40.8 field goal percentage and has made 23 three-point attempts. Rashad Lindsey is the only player to have started every game this season. He is playing a team-high 30.1 minutes per game, netting 8.5 ppg and handing out 2.7 apg.
 
Also making double-digit three-pointers this season are Connor Kern (15) and Tristin Walley (14).
 
All-Time vs. Red Wolves
Having won four consecutive meetings, Texas State leads the all-time series 4-3. Last season saw the Bobcats win 62-58 in Strahan Coliseum behind a 21-point, nine-rebound and six-block performance by Kavin Gilder-Tilbury. Pearson added 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the contest as well.
 
TXST is 1-2 when playing the Red Wolves in Jonesboro. The last meeting in the Natural State was Feb. 25, 2016 with the Bobcats coming out on top 71-60.
