Bobcats and Lady Techsters Battle to 1-1 Draw

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against a tough Louisiana Tech squad on a hot Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

For the season, the Bobcats are now 0-1-1 while the Lady Techsters are 1-0-1.

LA Tech maintained possession in the early portion of the first half and found a breakthrough just over halfway into the 20th minute. Nomvula Kgoale blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner after Heather Martin punched the ball away on a cross attempt.

A little over four minutes later, Rachel Grout sent in a corner kick from the left side that found its way to Brooke Ramsey in the right side of the penalty box. The senior midfielder then rocketed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for TXST's first of the season and to knot the score 1-1.

The second half saw the Lady Techsters outshoot the Bobcats 10-3 but held just a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal. TXST's only shot on goal in the period came in the 48th minute by Renny Moore.

Over the two overtime periods, the Bobcats held a 2-1 lead in shot attempts with every shot being recorded in the second extra period. Kaylee Davis had a shot get blocked out of bounds for a corner kick in the 102nd minute. As the LA Tech defense tried to clear the in-swinging ball, Kira Zapalac got her foot on it but sailed it over the net.

Pacing the Bobcats with two shots apiece were Kassi Hormuth, Jordan Kondikoff and Davis. In goal, Martin started for the second straight game and made three saves. Kathryn Budde stopped two shots while playing the final 65 minutes in net.

Next up for Texas States is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
