Bobcats Take on Lamar in CIT First Round

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the first time in 20 years the Texas State men's basketball team will play in the postseason when the Bobcats host Lamar in Strahan Coliseum in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
 
Texas State enters the CIT 20-13 on the season while the Cardinals are 19-14 overall.
 
Live stats, audio and video will be available for the game with Bill Culhane and Brant Freeman calling the game on 103.1 FM out of Austin and on KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos. The game will also be streamed on Facebook Live through the main Texas State Athletics Page.
 
Last Time Out
Texas State defeated ULM and UTA to reach the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship game for the first time in program history. The Bobcats came up short to Troy by six points in a tightly contested game from the tip.
 
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury led the Bobcats with 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half, on 7-of-11 shooting and was 4-for-5 on three-pointers against the Trojans.
 
Immanuel King had another monster outing with 11 points and team-high eight rebounds. The junior also set a new career-high with five blocks. Both his and Gilder-Tilbury's performances throughout the weekend earned them SBC All-Tournament honors.
 
Adding seven points and seven rebounds in the finals was Nijal Pearson. Ojai Black dished out a game-high five assists and grabbed a season best.
 
Scouting Lamar
Lamar was eliminated from in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament by Stephen F. Austin. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Cardinals. Overall, they are 6-10 on the road and were 4-5 against conference opponents.
 
Colton Weisbrod leads the team at 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He has made 52.4 percent of his field goal attempts but is just 1-for-6 from beyond the arc. The junior is the only LU player to attempt (216) and make (153) more than 100 free throws this season.
 
Nick Garth is the only other player averaging double-digits in points at 12.2 ppg. He paces the team in made three-pointers (92), three-pointer field goal percentage (42.6) and free throw percentage (72.4).
 
Dishing out a team best 4.3 assists per game and recording 52 steals is Joey Frenchwood. He adds 8.5 ppg with a 40.4 field goal percentage and 31.0 percentage from long distance with 40 made three-pointers.
 
Josh Nzeakor paces the Cardinals with a 59.1 field goal percentage and 23 blocks while adding 8.3 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
 
All-Time Series
The all-time series between the two programs is tied 29-29 with Texas State winning the last two contests. The last time the teams met was on Nov. 19, 2014 in Strahan Coliseum with the Bobcats winning 65-55. Thursday will be the 29th time the teams have played in San Marcos with TXST having a 17-11 edge.
