MONROE, La. – The Texas State volleyball team tied a school record with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-13) victory over ULM Thursday night inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Â
With the triumph, the Bobcats (18-7, 9-1 SBC) earned their ninth sweep in a row against Sun Belt Conference opposition. The mark tied the all-time record for most consecutive shutout victories against league members, which was originally set in 2000. The Warhawks dropped to 4-24 overall and 0-11 in the conference.
Â
Texas State has also now won 10-consecutive matches.
Â
Sophomore
Amy Pflughaupt paced the offense with 12 kills, while adding nine digs. Senior
Erin Hoppe posted her second double-double of the season with 22 assists and 11 digs. True freshman
Brooke Johnson contributed 14 assists of her own.
Â
Texas State narrowly escaped the opening period by a 25-22 margin. ULM came out on fire, taking an early 6-1 lead. The Bobcats settled into the match and were able to use a 13-4 run to pull ahead 14-10. The visitors then expanded their lead 19-14, which proved to be enough of a cushion to earn the three-point set triumph.
Â
The second set again went in favor of TXST, but not without some late theatrics. The maroon and gold went up 12-7, but the Warhawks whittled down the lead until they equalized at 19-all. Texas State regrouped after a timeout, however, and won six of the final seven points to snatch the period.
Â
The Bobcats used the momentum to run away with the third period and finish the night at 25-13.
Â
Kalena Caruthers led the Warhawks with eight kills. Tara Jenkins had 20 assists, and Kacey LeBlanc posted 10 digs.
Â
Texas State led statistically across the board, taking the night in kills (47-30), attack percentage (.308-.103), assists (41-27), aces (4-1), digs (49-36), and blocks (7-5).
Â
Next up for the Bobcats will be a battle with Louisiana for first place in the Sun Belt West division. The Bobcats and Ragin' Cajuns will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns have won nine of their last 10 inside Earl K. Long Gym.
