LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State volleyball team saw its 10-match win streak snapped in a 3-2 (25-27, 25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 15-8) loss to Louisiana Saturday night inside Earl K. Long Gym.
Â
The Bobcats dropped to 18-8 overall and 9-2 in the Sun Belt Conference, while the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 17-9 on the campaign and 10-2 in the league. The triumph was also the first for UL all-time against TXST (13-1).
Â
Senior
Jaliyah Bolden and sophomores
Megan Porter and
Amy Pflughaupt all had 14 kills to lead the maroon and gold. Porter added 21 digs for her ninth double-double, while true freshman
Tyeranee Scott tallied a career-high 12 kills. Senior
Erin Hoppe distributed 51 assists, while sophomores
Micah Dinwiddie (33) and
Mattie Adams (10) combined for 43 digs.
Â
Texas State was able to fend off one set point and come from behind to snatch the opener 27-25. Neither team led by more than three throughout a tight first period, and it was the home side that broke a 23-23 tie to find the night's first set point. A Bolden kill squashed that opportunity and sparked a 4-1 run to close out the game.
Â
The Bobcats never led in the second as Louisiana equalized at 25-23. The Ragin' Cajuns initially powered into a 6-1 lead, but TXST crawled back into a 10-10 tie. The two sides split the next 20 points, but a final 4-2 surge from Louisiana was enough to finish off the frame.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns used a raucous home crowd to claim the third 25-12. UL doubled up the Bobcats at both 10-5 and 20-10 before moving ahead 2-1 overall.
Â
The maroon and gold fought back to win the fourth game 25-21 and send the match into a decisive fifth set. Louisiana initially led 3-0 but the Bobcats settled in to tie the period at 9-9. The Bobcats used a 6-1 run to move from a narrow 15-14 advantage into a 21-15 lead. The six-point cushion proved to be enough for the visitors as they polished off the set by four points.
Â
Texas State entered its sixth five-set match of the season, but just the first in conference play. The Ragin' Cajuns jumped out to a 5-1 lead, which inevitably proved to be too much for the Bobcats to overcome on the road. UL extended its advantage to 10-5 and wrapped up the match at 15-8.
Â
Stacey Reilly and Dree'Ana Abram had a match-high 16 kills each. Reilly added 14 digs, while Hanna Rovira (15) and Hali Wisnoskie (10) also posted double-figure kills. Jessica Bartczyszyn doubled up with 49 assists and 16 digs, while Sydney Davis (34) and Avery Breaux (13) combined for 47 digs.
Â
Louisiana led in hitting percentage (.250-.191), aces (2-1) and blocks (9-7). TXST had match highs in kills (66-63) and digs (92-89). Both sides tallied 60 assists.
Â
Texas State will now return home for four of its final five matches of the regular season. First on the docket will be a 6:30 p.m. bout Nov. 3 against Arkansas State. The Bobcats defeated the Red Wolves 3-0 on Oct. 7 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
