Women’s Soccer Earns 100th Victory at Bobcat Soccer Complex

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's soccer team defeated Prairie View A&M 2-0 on a cloudy afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. With the victory, the Bobcats picked up the program's 100th on their home turf.

Texas State improves to 2-0 on the year while the Panthers are 0-1.

It took the Bobcats just three shots to find the back of the net in the middle of the ninth minute. Kassi Hormuth laid off a pass to Lauren Prater, who then sent the ball forward down the left sideline back for her. Rachel Grout buried her shot into the back of the net after receiving a cross from Hormuth to put TXST up 1-0.

The Bobcats had a great opportunity in the 40th minute to increase their lead when Jordan Kondikoff ripped a shot that forced PVAMU's keeper to make a diving save. Skylar Vanover-Hallmark was there for the rebound but sent her shot wide left of the post.

Only 25 seconds into the second half, Clarissa Leon ripped a shot after receiving a cross from Brooke Ramsey. However, her attempt ended up right at the visiting goalkeeper.

Alyssa Phelan took a long distance shot that went over the leaping keeper but hit the crossbar in the 70 minute. A few seconds later, a Bobcat was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Phelan's penalty kick was stopped by the keeper but Kondikoff beat every other player to the rebound. Unfortunately, her crack at goal was off the mark.

In the middle of the 78 minute, Kira Zapalac sent a long thru ball forward to Prater. The Arlington, Texas native was able to out race the Panthers' backline and send her shot past the diving goalkeeper to give TXST a 2-0 advantage.

Leon led the Bobcats with six shots followed by Prater and Hormuth with five and four, respectively. Grout, Hormuth and Leon paced the team with two shots on goal apiece.

Freshman Heather Martin played the first half in between the posts to earn her first career. Fellow freshman Kathryn Budde spent the second half in goal for the Bobcats. Both of them made a save each during the game.

Courtney Aleman and Alexis Mack attempted the only two shots for the visitors, both being on target. Making 11 saves for the Panthers was Clarissa Ledesma.

Texas State returns to action on Friday at McNeese State with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. The Bobcats next home game is next Sunday at 1 p.m. against Houston.
