SAN MARCOS – Texas State had a big fourth inning on Saturday, scoring six runs on four hits for a 6-0 lead. The Bobcats took that lead to the sixth until Arkansas State scored three to cut the lead in half and tied the game with three more runs in the seventh inning. With three more ASU runs in the eighth, the Red Wolves took Game Two of the series, 9-6, to drop the Bobcats to 26-25 on the season and 13-13 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Mickey Scott had his best day of the season with two hits, two RBIs and a run while
Jonathan Ortega and
Dylan Paul added two hits apiece.
Granger Studdard and
Cody Lovejoy added a hit two to give the Bobcats eight hits on the day.

Unfortunately, Texas State did not strike a hit after Ortega's infield single in the sixth inning. Arkansas State retired 13 of Texas State's last 14 batters, including the last 10 in a row. Meanwhile, the Red Wolves posted three runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull out the victory.

Cory Geisler only gave up one earned run in five innings of work, striking out two.
Chase Hodson and
Pasquale Mazzoccoli combined for five strikeouts.

WHO STOOD OUT

For the first time this season, Scott knocked two hits in a game, and for the first time in his career he tallied two RBIs. He made his first hit in the third inning, but came up big with bases loaded in the fourth. He knocked his second hit of the day to plate two runs and showed off his wheels to score when ASU committed two errors on the play.

- Top 4th – With two outs, Theodore Hoffman drew a walk. Dylan Paul followed with a base hit, and Luke Sherley took a hit by pitch to load the bases. Nick Perez drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run of the game. After Perez, Mickey Scott knocked a single to right field to bring in two runs, but an error from the right fielder and the second baseman allowed two more runs to score. Next, Cody Lovejoy kept the inning going with a single to right field and promptly stole second base on the first pitch of Jonathan Ortega's at bat. On the next pitch, Ortega sent a single to right field to bring in Lovejoy and complete the six-run inning. (6 runs, 4 hits, 2 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 6th – After a single and a walk, the Bobcats got two outs. But, with two outs, nine-hole hitter Jake Bakamus hit a three-run homer. (3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
- Bottom 7th – Arkansas State led off with a single and followed that with a triple to plate a run. An error after that allowed another run to score. The hitter who reached on an error went to second base on a groundout and third on a passed ball. He scored on a triple to tie the game, 6-6. (3 runs, 3 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 8th – The Red Wolves drew a one-out walk and followed that with a double to deep centerfield to plate the go-ahead run. Another walk and double brought in two more runs for Arkansas State to push the ASU lead to 9-6. (3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)

NOTES
- For the first time this season, Mickey Scott had multiple hits and multiple RBIs in a game. It is the first time he has knocked in two RBIs in a game in his Texas State career.
- In the top of the fifth, Dylan Paul knocked his second hit of the game. It marked his fifth multi-hit game of the year. Saturday was also his fourth game in a row with a hit. He has eight hits in that stretch.
- After going hitless in the last two games, Jonathan Ortega knocked two hits Saturday for his first multi-hit game since April 29 against Troy. He now has 17 multi-hit games this season.
- The Bobcats drop to 4-4 on the season when the team scores six runs and 19-6 when leading after six innings and 3-1 when tied after seven.

Texas State and Arkansas State will play the series finale at 12 p.m. Sunday. After that, the Bobcats will play a midweek game at Texas followed by the final Sun Belt series of the season against UT Arlington.
