LAFAYETTE, La. – For the second game in a row, a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning decided the game. Unfortunately for Texas State, that run came against the Bobcats on Sunday as they dropped to No. 20 UL Lafayette, 1-0, to fall to 22-19 on the season and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Â
The game was a defensive battle that hinged on just a few plays.
Jonathan Hennigan was impressive in his first weekend start since the UL Monroe series, striking out four and only giving up three hits without a run in six innings of work.
Â
Texas State put four hits on the board against the Ragin' Cajuns, outhitting them, 4-3. The Bobcats fall to 18-6 on the season when outhitting an opponent.
Â
The best opportunity for Texas State to score came in the fourth inning when the Bobcats loaded the bases with just one out. But a strikeout and fly out ended the scoring opportunity. Other than that, the Bobcats only left two other runners on base in the game.
Â
Five times the Bobcats forced ULL to leave runners in scoring position throughout the game, including bases loaded in the seventh, limiting them to one run in the inning after
Pasquale Mazzoccoli struck out a batter for the last out of the inning.
Â
Before Mazzoccoli's strikeout though, the Bobcats walked four consecutive batters with two outs to plate the only run of the game.
Â
The Bobcats will look to rebound at Texas at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
