Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State was unable to overcome a pair of early turnovers that led to 14 Troy points as the Trojans went on for a 40-7 win Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

How It Happened:
  • Texas State (2-9, 0-7 Sun Belt) forced a Troy (9-2, 6-1 Sun Belt) punt on the game's opening drive. However, on the Bobcats' third play of the ensuing drive the Trojans' Jalen Rountree stepped in front of a Conner White pass for the game's first turnover.
  • The Trojans set up at the Texas State 25 and eight plays later Jordan Chunn burst through the left side of the line and into the end zone from three yards out. Ryan Kay's point after was good, giving Troy the 7-0 lead with 9:03 to play in the first quarter.
  • Texas State failed to convert a first down on its next drive and a short punt gave the Trojans the ball at the Bobcat 37. It took Troy only three plays to make the score 14-0 as Josh Anderson burst 29 yards up the middle for his second rushing TD of the year.
  • On the following drive, Texas State's Gabe Schrade appeared to pick up a first down across midfield on a fake punt, but a holding call negated the big gain and forced the Bobcats to punt.
  • Troy again took advantage of positive field position, moving 42 yards in 10 plays with Kay splitting the uprights from 21-yards out for the 17-0 lead with 9:20 to go before halftime.
  • The Bobcats moved the ball 35 yards to the Troy 33 on their next possession, but on 3rd-and-17 Eddie Printz was intercepted by Rountree after Kamryn Melton tipped the pass away from the intended receiver.
  • Troy again took advantage of the Bobcat turnover, using only six plays to go 72 yards for their third TD of the afternoon. Tevaris McCormick hauled in a 38-yard Brandon Silvers pass down the right sideline for the score. Texas State blocked the extra point, limiting Troy's lead to 23-0.
  • Texas State's final drive before halftime totaled 32 yards and nine plays, but the Trojan defense held firm on 4-and-8 at their own 35 as White's pass across the middle fell incomplete.
  • Troy took over at the 35-yard line with 50 seconds remaining in the half. The Trojans used only four plays to traverse the 65 yards to the end zone with Deondre Douglas completing a 46-yard catch and run for the 30-0 Troy lead.
  • Troy held Texas State to a 3-and-out on the opening possession of the second half. The Trojans then expanded their lead to 37-0 as Anderson found the end zone for his second rushing TD of the game. The Trojans' 12-play, 70-yard drive was twice aided by pass interference calls against the Bobcats.
  • With White at quarterback Texas State again moved the ball well to start the next drive, highlighted by a 33-yard reception by Elijah King that took the Bobcats down to the Troy 37. The Bobcats would gain eight more yards to the Trojan 29, but the drive would stall and Troy would again force a turnover on downs.
  • Stedman Mayberry put the Bobcats on the board with a 10-yard run up the middle with 1:10 remaining the third. Texas State's started the drive at its own 28-yard line after its defense forced a 3-and-out. King had 43 yards receiving during the drive, including his second 33-yard reception of the afternoon.
  • The teams combined for two first downs over the next four drives before the Trojans pieced together an 11 play drive that culminated with a 40-7 lead with 2:20 to go as Kay proved true on a 27-yard field goal attempt.
  • Texas State's final drive ended at its own 49-yard line as time expired.
