SAN MARCOS, Texas – A goal with just under five minutes from Arkansas State was the lone scorer of the contest as Texas State fell to the Red Wolves 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats fall to 6-7-2 on the season while ASU is now 5-6-3 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play. After the other games in the league, Texas State is in a six-way tie for third with Georgia State, Little Rock, UL Monroe, UL Lafayette and the Red Wolves.

For most of the first half the Bobcats controlled the ball. This led to them outshooting the visitors 7-3 in the first 45 minutes but were only able to place one shot on goal. That came when
Rachel Grout took a shot that went right at the goalkeeper.

The best chance for Texas State to get on the scoreboard in the first half was in the 24th minute.
Genesis Turman sent in a cross from the right side that
Lauren Prater was able to get her foot on but the ball slide right by the right post.

In the second half, the Bobcats unleashed 12 shots but placed only four on target. The team also sent in multiple crosses but were unable to find any players in the right position to possibly knock the ball home.

Sarah Gavin gave the ASU goalkeeper the strongest challenge of the day in the 82nd minute. She ripped a shot from 25 yards out that curled towards the left post that the keeper had to make a diving save to stop.

The Red Wolves won their third corner of the game late in the 85th minute. Bailey Reed sent the ball sailing towards the back post. Taylor Schneider found the ball with her head and sent it into the upper right section of the net for the lone goal of the contest.

Over the final five minutes the Bobcats won three corner kicks but were unable to convert on any. The best chance was when
Kelly Barbalias got her head on a corner kick from
Brooke Ramsey in the 87th minute. However, the ball sailed high over the crossbar.

Jordie Kondikoff came off the bench to take a game-high five shots, three coming in the first half. Also attempting two shots were
Kassi Hormuth,
Maddie Nichols,
Lauren Prater and Gavin. In goal,
Heather Martin made three saves on the day

Next up for Texas State is a trip to the state of Alabama for games against South Alabama and Troy. The Bobcats face the Jaguars Friday night at 7 p.m. and follow with a Sunday match at 1 p.m. against the Trojans.
