SAN MARCOS, Texas - Junior
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury led the Texas State men's basketball team with 15 points and eight rebounds Saturday evening in Strahan Coliseum. However, Georgia State came out on top 58-46 in a Sun Belt Conference contest to snap the Bobcats' seven-game home winning streak.
Both
Emani Gant and
Cameron Naylor finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Bobby Conley contributed six points and set a new career-high with two blocks off the bench. Five assists and two steals were credited to
Ojai Black.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 6-2 lead following Gilder-Tilbury completing an old-fashion three-point play. After
Ethan Montalvo went down with an injury almost a minute later, the Panthers closed the half on a 24-10 run.
A layup by Black and Gilder-Tilbury made a bucket and nailed the following free throw to cut the Bobcats' deficit to five less than 50 seconds into the second half. After the Panthers pushed their advantage to nine, Gilder-Tilbury knocked down a trey to cut GSU's lead to 33-27. That was as close as Texas State would get the rest of the game as the Panthers answered with a 10-3 scoring burst.
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to Appalachian State on Saturday, January 9. Tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
