Gant Scores 800th Career Point at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – Senior forward Emani Gant scored the 800th point of his Texas State career Saturday afternoon in the Bobcats' 76-56 loss to Appalachian State in the Holmes Center. The Los Angeles, California native finished with 10 points, giving him 802 in his third year in San Marcos.

Texas State fell to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Mountaineers are now 3-12 on the season, 1-3 in the league and snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Cameron Naylor paced the Bobcats with 14 points off the bench on 5-of-10 shooting and made his lone three-point attempt. Kavin Gilder-Tilbury contributed 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block. Setting a career-high with 10 points was Bobby Conley.

For App State, Frank Eaves scored a game-high 30 points. The senior finished 10-for-16 from the field, made three treys and converted all seven of his free throw attempts. Ronshad Shabazz and Emarius Logan added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Appalachian State got off to a hot start on its way to building a 22-point lead with 7:30 left until halftime. Gilder-Tilbury hit a jumper from the right elbow to start a 9-2 run for the Cats near the end of the period. The scoring stretch was capped off by rare four-point play by D'Angelo West. However, the Mountaineers got a put back jumper with less than three second left to take a 42-26 lead into the intermission.

The second half saw Appalachian State maintain at least a 20-point advantage thru out. Texas State closed the game on a 9-3 run that saw Austin Evans retrieve an offensive board off a missed free throw and complete the put back.

Next up for the Bobcats is South Alabama Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama.
