Second Half Goals Lift Soccer Over Prairie View A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team completed the weekend sweep Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout over Prairie View A&M at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. After a scoreless first half, the Bobcats had two players score their first goals of the season to lift Texas State to victory. Texas State improves to 3-2-0 on the year. Sunday's victory marked the first home victory of the season for Texas State.

The first half of soccer played out slow, as neither team was able to connect with the back of the net. Texas State did, however, outshoot the Lady Panthers, 9-2, in the first with six shots on goal.
Beginning in the 67th minute of the contest, the Bobcats gained an upper hand as Prairie View A&M's Braelah McGinnis was given a red card, ejecting her from the contest.

The Bobcats took advantage as in the 73rd minute, Kassi Hormuth scored an unassisted goal as she flicked it over the Lady Panther goalkeeper. Hormuth earned possession of the ball after Clarissa Leon shot a ball that was blocked by Prairie View A&M. That goal marked Hormuth's first goal of the season and fourth career goal as a Bobcat.

Fourteen minutes later, the Bobcats struck again to solidify their lead over Prairie View A&M. Junior Taylor Allen received a pass from Hormuth out to the right side and scored her first collegiate goal on a ball that sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the back left corner of the net.

Texas State finished the contest outshooting the Lady Panthers, 21-5, with nine shots total on goal. Each team recorded three corners and Texas State goalkeeper Caitlynn Rinehart recorded two saves in the shutout.

The Bobcats will now hit the road once again for a pair of contests, first beginning with Northwestern State Friday evening. Kick-off against the Lady Demons is scheduled for 7 p.m. For more information on the Texas State soccer team, go online to www.txstatebobcats.com or follow the 'Cats on Twitter (@TxStateSoccer) or Facebook (Texas State Soccer).
