SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team announced the hiring of assistant coach Terrence Johnson. Johnson comes to San Marcos after coaching at Samford University and serving as an AAU coach in Houston.

"I'm very happy to have Terrence Johnson join us," head coach Danny Kaspar said. "He is a very personable, hard working and enthusiastic person who I think relates very well to basketball players at the collegiate and high school level. Terrence and I have known each other for a long time and I feel very comfortable with his knowledge of the game and all that goes along with creating a successful collegiate basketball program."

While at Samford, Johnson coached three players to all conference honors, including two players he recruited to the All-Southern Conference Freshman team in 2012.

Johnson has worked with some standout players during his career, most notably Langston Galloway who played collegiately at St. Joseph's and went on to be selected by the New York Knicks and was named to the NBA All Rookie Second Team this season.

"We will look forward to him recruiting mainly in the Houston, and I-10 corridor as he is from New Orleans," Kaspar said. "We hope to expand our recruiting with his knowledge of these areas."

Johnson replaces former Texas State assistant coach Terrence Rencher who left to become an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico.

Terrence is married to Iesha Sims-Johnson.
