SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State fell in the series finale against UL Lafayette, 13-3, on Sunday, dropping the series for the weekend.
Â
A bright spot for the Bobcats on Sunday, though, was
David Paiz. He went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI on his first career home run at Texas State. In the sixth inning, he knocked the homer, bringing in
Colby Targun on the two-run shot. That was just after Targun had plated
Granger Studdard with a double down the right field line. Studdard knocked a single to get on base. That completed a three-run inning for the Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's all Texas State would get on Sunday.
Â
Cedric Vallieres went 2-for-4 while Targun finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Both
Cory Geisler and
Granger Studdard added a hit each in the game.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns were first to score on Sunday when Kyle Clement hit a solo home run to right field for the early 1-0 ULL lead. The Ragin' Cajuns added three more runs in the top of the fourth, knocking two more homers in the game for a 4-0 lead. UL Lafayette added one more home run, a three-run knock, in the fifth inning as part of a six-run inning for the Ragin' Cajuns. They added three more in the sixth to build a 13-0 lead before the Bobcats answered with their runs in the bottom of the inning.
Â
In the first, Vallieres knocked a one-out double and went to third on a fly out. The Bobcats couldn't plate him before the inning was through. Other than Texas State's scores in the sixth, no other Bobcat saw third base the rest of the day.
Â
Texas State will look to bounce back against Texas at UFCU DischFalk Field at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. After that, the Bobcats will travel to Troy for another Sun Belt Conference series.
