Softball Extends Winning Streak To Six

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team extended its winning streak to six games on Wednesday night after run-ruling the Lamar Cardinals by a score of 8-0. Freshman pitcher Randi Rupp earned her 11th victory of the season after putting in five innings of work while allowing just two hits and striking out four. The Bobcats improve to 15-10 overall.

Texas State racked up nine hits on the evening and scored all eight runs in the final three innings of play.

Despite lining out for the first out of the bottom of the third, sophomore outfielder Kimberlin Naivar provided the spark that Texas State needed to get the ball rolling. Kelli Baker then reached base by way of a bunt single and promptly scored as Ariel Ortiz doubled to right center for her 16th RBI of the season.

Lamar then got a base runner on in the top of the fourth with two outs, but failed to advance her beyond first as Sara Rupp caught the Cardinal stealing for the second time.

With two outs and runners on first and second, a single to right field by Naivar not only scored the second run of the game, but once again was the spark that the Bobcat offense needed. A single down the left field line by Ortiz scored Naivar to ultimately give Texas State a 4-0 edge on the visiting Cardinals.

After a three up, three down fifth for the Cardinals, the Bobcats continued to tack on runs to the scoreboard. Kortney Koroll led the fifth inning off with a double to right center which ignited three straight hits for the Bobcat offense. With the bases loaded and just one out, Baker smacked a double to right center to score the final two runs in the contest.

Ortiz and Baker led the Bobcats offensively with a pair of hits and pair of RBI each. Kendall Wiley finished the night going 1-for-3, making it the 24th consecutive game that the junior first baseman has safely reached base.

With the win, head coach Ricci Woodard sits just one victory away from 500 in her career with the Bobcats.

Texas State will now prep to welcome Sun Belt Conference member Georgia State this weekend at the Bobcat Softball Stadium. First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats, live audio, and live video will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com.
